These are one of my favourite snacks, really tasty, they fulfil me when I get salty, ‘junk food’ cravings. You can make them as mild or as spicey as you like, mine set my mouth on fire! Chickpeas are a great source of fibre, antioxidant phytonutrients, and high protein for a ‘junk’ snack compared to crisps/potato chips.
Drain the chickpeas really well, and dry them completely. Lightly coat them in oil (coconut oil is great!) and bake on a tray at 180 degrees celsius for 25 – 35 minutes. The exact temperature will depend on your oven so keep an eye on them. I much prefer them when they are golden as they remain slightly chewy. Once they brown and darken they really crisp up, which some may prefer but I find them a bit too hard. It will depend on your own preference, try them every five minutes and see which texture you like best.
When they are done, pour them in to a bowl and season with your prefered spices. I use a combination of turmeric, cumin, garam masala mix, hot chilli pepper powder, black pepper and some salt. I am also planning to try out a honey glaze version!
